Abstract Note

Who: The People of Oakland and the Bay Area. [the 99%]

What: There are currently two Occupy Oakland encampments in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street action in NYC and with the Occupy protests spreading internationally.

When: October 10th, 2011, until forever.

Where: Currently Oscar Grant Plaza (14th and Broadway) and Snow Park (19th and Harrison). See the map.

How: We share resources and make important decisions collectively in a unified General Assembly, and do most of our work in specialized committees and working groups. Everyone who supports our occupation can join one of our committees.

Why: We are reclaiming public space to use as a forum for the people to come together, meet one another, listen to each other, and build power for ourselves. Occupy Oakland is more than just a speak-out or a camp out. The purpose of our gathering here is to plan actions, to mobilize real resistance, to defend ourselves from the economic and physical war that is being waged against our communities.
