Day 5 Summary | Occupy Chicago

As the sun sets on our 5th day, we have much to be proud of. We have just finished organizing the first of our structural committees. We have grown from 7 people to over 60. We have successfully maintained a peaceful relationship with the CPD and the Federal; Reserve PD. and have  maintained a society of equals. Today, we had between 45-50 people involved in our twice-daily general assemblies, where individuals practice true democracy. This movement is a global phenomenon based on decentralized participatory democracy and it is a beautiful sight to behold. We are all extremely excited to be a part of it.

While the rain alternated between a light drizzle and a full on down pour, “the night crew” of 6 occupiers created a ruckus for the morning commute. From 8am-1pm we just beat our drums and chanted our slogans. Sometime in the day, the CPD came down to respond to a call the federal reserves police made. They claimed that since they couldn’t see inside our storage bins they were nervous and because of it the CPD officer asked if we’d move our bins elsewhere. We politely decline. Thank you to all who supported us. We are growing and expanding and gaining momentum due to all the kind donations and the people joining our movement. So many new faces everyday.    Can’t wait to bump into all of you at the General Assembly on Friday 9/30. Meet at the Federal Building (Jackson and LaSalle) then we will march to Millennium park for the assembly. The goal of this assembly is to decide what our core goals as a group are.  Please stop by and participate in the future of mankind!
