Abstract Note
Description
In solidarity with those brave citizens occupying wall street, we will occupy Chase Manhattan Bank in Ashland starting at Noon on Wednesday October 5th and continuing until Chase's Branch here is closed. We'll Occupy every weekday from 12-5.
Bring your balloons, costumes, drums and what-nots we'll make a jolly good time of it.
We're going to Chase Chase out of Ashland.
Chase is among the biggest perpetrators of social evil in our country, let's show 'em that they owe -we the people- everything and not vice versa.
THere are a few rules about what you can do in a public place while exercising your free speech right.
a) Bring your legal identification (it's NOT illegal not to have it but they can detain you until they have adequately identified you) and at least $5 (yes, there are still vagrancy laws on the books!).
b) don't cause an obstruction of TRAFFIC or PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC (stay on the STREET SIDE of the sidewalk so people can pass) and certainly do not block the entrance.
c) If a policeman speaks to you, do what they say even if you don't like what they say. If they ask you to move, do it, take a walk around the block, come back. If they decide to unilaterally ask the crowd to disperse, just start walking around the corner back and forth, etc.
d) STAY CALM, bring a nice towel and probably an umbrella.
e) Video Tape The Event - bring your cameras, you know they have them, keep them running, you have every right to video tape anything that happens in a public place.
f) do not bring ANYTHING THAT COULD BE CONSTRUED AS A WEAPON - the police will have every right to take you out and I'll cheer them if they do!
